Well, today I spent most of the day working on something for myself. I bought a beautiful strand of Garnet Briolette’s at the Melbourne Bead and Gem show with some garnet rondells and tiny silver spacer beads to make into a necklace. I’ve been thinking about it for awhile and had a bit of a design in mind. I finally found some wire thin enough to go through the holes in the briolettes at the Sydney show so today was the day. What I ended up making was quite different to what I was planning. It sort of just “evolved” however I was quite happy with it. Finally got it finished late this afternoon and set it up on a necklace bust on the table.
In came the darling husband and I asked “what do you think of it?”. He looked at it and said, “mmm don’t think it works”. I was devastated! I think I might have to get a few more opinions! Watch this space, as soon as I have some good light I’ll take a photo and see what people think!

PS. Well here it is, I took it to work for some feedback from my colleagues and made a couple minor alterations. I’m happy with it even if ‘he’ isn’t!

I can’t believe that we are nearly through October already! Seems like only yesterday I was getting over the disappointment of our local show being cancelled (and that was at the end of August!). The last months have just flown by!
I have just returned from the Bead and Gem Show in Sydney where I taught two workshops – Spiralling Pearls and African Helix. Both my classes were fully booked which was such a great confidence booster. I hope everyone went away happy with what they learnt, in both cases we ran out of time and didn’t get nearly as much done as I’d hope we would but I think my students were well on their way to finishing their pieces. I really enjoyed my sessions and met some wonderful beaders in the process.
I also had the pleasure of spending most of Friday helping with the Beaded Link stall that was raising funds for the Cancer Council of NSW (http://www.thebeadedlink.com.au/). The ‘beaded link’ was a collaborative piece, which was worked on by beaders from all over Australia, including myself. Seeing the Beaded Link iIn the flesh’ so to speak was wonderful, it truly is a fabulous piece of art work. Congratulations must go to all who participated and especially to Desi Rentos who came up with the idea and stuck with it through thick and thin. It was also very heart warming to see all the great donations of beads, tools, books etc that were so generously donated to be included in the runner-up prizes. Beady people are so giving.

As with most shows I spent far too much and missed seeing such a lot. Even after attending half a dozen or more shows I still get overwhelmed by the amount that is on offer and I always come home wishing I’d bought more of those, or some of that, especially when I see photos of what other people have bought. I spend so much time looking forward to these shows and then they go so quickly. Now I have to wait another 12 months for the next one (unless I can wrangle some time off work to go to the Melbourne one again!).

Just a few of the things I picked up at the show
On the beading front nothing much has happened since I got home. I managed to catch a cold and haven’t had much energy to do anything much, not even beading! (yes even beading! I must have been sick!). Hopefully now that I’m starting to feel better, and once I’ve tidied up my work room (which I left in a huge mess before I headed to Sydney) and unpacked all my new purchases I’ll be ready to do some creating. With Christmas speeding towards us I need to get some stock made!
Cheers Sharyn
