African Helix

Filed under: Uncategorized — by movetothebead @ 9:49 am

Well I finished my African Helix, made it into a necklace finishing it off with Bali silver cones and clasp.  I must say I’m quite pleased with it.  So nice to get back into seed beading again!  Another technique I have been working on is beaded Cabs.  I did a workshop at the Sydney Bead and Gem Show last year and really enjoyed it.  This was the end result of the workshop, I completed the strap and the fringing afterwards.

Unakite Cab

I’m so impressed with the African Helix that I’m thinking of adding one to this Cab that I have been working on recently:

Blue Cab

Using the delica beads the rope should be smaller, my only worry is that it will be too much.  Still nothing ventured, nothing gained.  I will give it a try and see how it looks!  Next plan is to use the beaded cab technque to make a collar.  I have some beautiful glass cabs in pink swirls from Wendy Hearn that I’m itching to bead up!  Just have to wait for my order of seed beads to arrive.

Happy Australia Day

Filed under: General — by movetothebead @ 10:00 pm

We usually have an Australia Day/Hottest 100 BBQ Party each year, but this year our yard is a construction site so isn’t really conducive to entertaining. So we had a quiet day at home. One of my goals this year is to try some new techniqes so I started today with an African Helix rope. Took me all day to perfect but now I think I’ve gotten into the groove of it and I’m quite liking it. It’s so interesting how it works up.      I plan to continue working on it tomorrow.  Not sure what it will end up being.

It’s a first!

Filed under: General — by movetothebead @ 11:00 am

My first entry. Never thought of having a blog until my friend Anne suggested it! Thought it would be a good way to keep people up to date with what I’m doing. I’m looking forward to a busy year, with lots of beading, lots of teaching and a few other ideas that I have in the pipeline. I’m hoping to ‘broaden’ my horizons and try some new things which I can incorporate into my jewellery making. I also hope to improve my computer skills (very technically challenged!) and my photography skills! Not to mention spending lots of quality time with family and friends and getting out and living life to the fullest!

Yes, a very busy year. Now I just have to stay focussed and get on with it!

Cheers
